About the Australian Society of Anaesthetists

Formed in 1934, the Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to representing, supporting and educating Australian anaesthetists.

We work to maintain and strengthen the high standards of the profession, by focussing on the professional, workforce and economic interests of our members.

There are three key pillars of advocacy we provide to our members:

  1. Represent – We promote the needs of the profession in both the public and private sector to government and other appropriate authorities.
  2. Support – We actively address the professional and economic issues that impact on members in public and private practice in urban, regional and remote Australia.
  3. Educate – We provide a broad range of high-quality educational services, resources and opportunities to ensure Australian anaesthetists remain among the best in the world.

The challenges and opportunities that the profession faces are constantly changing. Having advocated for anaesthetists for 90 years, the ASA has a central place in the history of the profession in Australia. We also have an important role in its future, supporting those who choose this career path and the important work they do. To learn more about the support we can provide, visit our main website (asa.org.au).

Established in 1934, the Australian Society of Anaesthetists is a peak not-for-profit representative body of anaesthesia in Australia.

ASA acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work. We pay our respects to the elders past and present and extend that respect to all other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
